Downtown Dilemma on Urban Jacksonville Weekly Monday December 14th

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 09:17 PM PST

We’ll be talking with Bill Miller, Assistant Metro Editor and the editor of Downtown Dilemma, a new 5-part series from the Times-Union and Jacksonville.com on Downtown Jacksonville. Five reporters spent 4 months investigating why efforts to revitalize downtown have fizzled and what it will take to get it back on track.

The series begins Sunday and I’m interested in seeing the infographics and layout design, so I’ll be picking up a copy. You should too! If you have questions for Bill, leave them here.

The 5 parts in the Downtown Dilemma Series

  1. Promise Unfulfilled
  2. A Day in the Life
  3. Living Downtown
  4. Faith in the Future
  5. Six Paths to a Brighter Horizon

Springfield Community Garden Update and Fundraiser

We are going to be having another fundraiser on New Year’s Day.  ONH
is allowing us to park cars again for the Gator Bowl.  We need
volunteers at 9am until around noon, when the lot will probably be
full.  I know it’s a holiday, but if you can spare some time that
morning, we can probably raise some decent money for the back fence.
If you are able to volunteer, please let me know.

We are going to begin construction of the beds next week.  Top soil
and manure have already been delivered on site.  Once the beds are
built each gardener will be responsible for filling their bed by
January 15, 2010.  If you want to line your bed or put down a weed
guard please remember to do so before you fill your bed.  You will be
responsible for this cost, as it is entirely up to you.

In addition, your annual $35 fee will be due by January 15th.  If your
bed is not filled by January 15th and your annual fee is not paid, we
will assume that you no longer want to be a member and your membership
agreement will be considered null and void.

We are also working on a seed starting class for January 9.  As soon
as we get it confirmed, I will let you know. Again, if you are able to
volunteer on January 1, 2010, please send me an email or give me a
call.

Fire! at RAM

On December 19th, we are going to feature the sensational Canadian fire artist, Miss Molotov, "The Queen of Gasoline" as our featured street performer at the Riverside Arts Market. She is something else!

Miss-molotov01a

She will also be performing at our first-ever nighttime event at RAM later that same day on the River Stage. In addition, she will be one of the performers at the TealGate festivities before the Jaguar game on Dec. 17th.

Could you do an interview with her for next week's T-U? She would be happy to speak with you. Her phone number is 778-867-3473 (Vancouver, Canada). She was having trouble with her phone today (Wed.) but says it will be fine on Thursday. There are hundreds of photos of her on the Internet. Quite exotic!  Her website is http://www.missmolotov.ca
Her real name is Marissa Gough, and her email is marissagough@yahoo.ca .

Even if you cannot do an interview, I would appreciate your considering an article about the fiery Miss M along with our host of other performers, since December 19th will be the last day of the Riverside Arts Market until March, 2010. We are going to have quite a celebration for this final day. RAM has become the largest free weekly art and entertainment venue in Florida.
